In this scholarship entry, students are invited to explore practical actions they can take to discourage drunk driving, such as raising awareness, promoting safe alternatives, setting positive examples, and collaborating with community organizations. The goal is to highlight how young people can become leaders in changing social attitudes and building safer communities.

Formatting an Essay for the Drive Smart, Live Safe Scholarship: How Students Can Help Prevent Drunk Driving in Their Communities

Students should come up with a creative title for their essays and include any sources used to build out their arguments. The scholarship selection committee asks that students submit their essays as PDFs and under the following naming format:

• “[Scholarship Name and Year] – [Student Name].”

Students should also use a header in their essay that includes:

• The student’s full name and student ID number
• The name of the student’s academic institution of choice
• The physical address, email address, and phone number of that institution’s financial aid office

When Should I Submit My Application?

• Applicant must be in good academic standing

Anyone who meets the following conditions is NOT eligible to apply: 

• Employees or children of employees of Centro Legal Hispano de Las Vegas
• Past recipients of the Drive Smart, Live Safe Scholarship: How Students Can Help Prevent Drunk Driving in Their Communities
• Applicants who are unable/unwilling to be interviewed by a representative of Centro Legal Hispano de Las Vegas, if they were to be awarded a scholarship. 
• Applicants who submit the same essay for multiple scholarships or multiple years in a row

Selection & Award Notification Process

The scholarship selection committee with Centro Legal Hispano de Las Vegas can only consider applications submitted by the aforementioned April 1, 2026, deadline. All applications must include a complete scholarship form and a qualifying essay to be considered. Applicants who use AI to generate their essays will not be considered for the $2,500 award.

Age, race, religion, gender, national origin, familial status, or other protected classes will have no influence on the committee’s decision.

The team again asks that students and their families refrain from reaching out to Centro Legal Hispano de Las Vegas throughout the consideration process, as the firm cannot answer questions about the selection process or the status of a student’s application.
